For the Melbourne CBD the postcode is 3000, for post office boxes it is 3001.
For any other suburb try this site: http://www1.auspost.com.au/postcodes/

Melbourne has dozens of suburbs and localities and each has its own postcode. 3000 is the postcode for street addresses in the CBD, but that is only a tiny part of Greater Melbourne and the only addresses that should contain 'Melbourne' are those in that small area.
Addresses should be in the following format:
Addressee name e.g. J Smith
Street address e.g. 15 Smith Street
Suburb or town e.g. Parkdale (Parkdale is a suburb of Melbourne but 'Melbourne' doesn't appear anywhere in the address)
State then 4 digit Postcode e.g. VIC 3195
Australia
For individual postcodes, enter the suburb or town on the following postcode locator:

3000 for a street address, 3001 for a GPO -post box address.
