When i do phone hotel bookings.. They require me to give them my visa debit card numbers.

Lets say the hotel total nights is 800.00AUD im going to stay 3 nights in melbourne in aug 2010
Do i need to 800.00 in my debit visa card TODAY before they take my details?

They wont take my money out they just want to secure my detail i think.. When i go to the hotel they swipe the card again (but they do not take my money out) until i finaly come out of the hotel on the departure.

So what happens if i have just 200.00 in my card today and i was to phone them today to make my bookings for aug. Will i still need to have 800.00 in my card today ? or would it not matter ?

I dont have the money until july the 15th thats when i will have 800.00 but do i need 800.00 today if the hotel ask my debit visa card ? (they dotn take my money out until i get there aniways)but im just wondering what might happen if only i have 200.00 and wont have the money in the card till 15th and my trip isnt till the 1st of aug aniways. Will it still work? or errors at them?

They will, possibly, only take money off it if you don't turn up, or cancel the booking to close to the booking date, but they should tell you that.

It does not matter how much you have on the card now, they should only take money off it after your visit.

As an example, I am going on a cruise in July-September next year and have already given them my credit card number. Last time I did, they didn't take any money off it until at least 2 weeks after I got back home. I did arrange in bank transfers to the account to cover on cruise excursions, but even they didn't get taken off until after the trip, so I actually lost the interest I would have got if I had left it in the savings account, so don't worry about what you have in it now.

This all depends on the rate that you are booking.

You need to look at the rules of the rate to see if there is any deposit required at time of booking. If no deposit is required at time of booking then thety will not take any money off yoru credit card until you get there in August.
